Wind turbines – making a positive environmental impact

Wind turbines are already making a huge impact on power generation throughout the UK, and, while they are not universally admired, they are currently one the UK’s most effective means of generating sustainable energy.

Before a wind turbine is installed, aerodynamic modelling is used to determine the optimum turbine configuration, including height and number of blades. The turbine itself has three main components – the rotor, which captures the energy of the wind as it is pushed round, the generator, which converts the kinetic energy of the rotor into electricity, and the structural support, which elevates the rotor and usually houses the generator.

With modern designs and hi-tech materials, wind turbines are doing an excellent job at reducing our carbon footprint and providing us with more eco-friendly energy.
